In the early morning of January 16, 2020, after waiting for 40 days, we finally received from the headquarters of CARF the good news that Southwest University Hospital has officially obtained the highest three-year CARF accreditation. It becomes the first university hospital in China which has been recognized by international golden standards for rehabilitation quality, and becomes the 18th in China and the 2nd in the west area passing CARF accreditation.
01 Implication of three-year CARF accreditation
The organization satisfies each of the CARF
accreditation conditions and demonstrates substantial conformance to the
standards. It is designed and operated to benefit the person served. Its current
method of operation appears likely to be maintained and/or improved in the
foreseeable future. The organization demonstrates ongoing quality improvement
and continuous conformance from any previous period of CARF accreditation.
02 The first year of CARF introduction
In this year Southwest University Hospital actively sought for
breakthrough.
As a part of the university, the hospital has been centering on
prevention of commonly seen diseases, and protection of the health of the
faculty and students of the university and surrounding communities. In the face
of the aging population, and increasing patients’ demands for and awareness of
rehabilitation, President Wu Zonghui has deeply recognized the threats and opportunities
for the hospital development.
In May 2012, it set up the Rehabilitation Medicine Center, and
determined to make the Rehabilitation Department a specialized department of
the hospital. However, due to the lagging-behind rehabilitation quality
control, its development has been restrained.
Cooperating with the Physical Education Institute of Southwest
University, it established the Sports Rehabilitation Institute, which has
further enhanced the scientific research strength. Nonetheless, modern
rehabilitation concepts are still absent.
To make breakthrough, and to bring the person served with
medical services of higher quality, the hospital launched CARF accreditation on
July 23, 2018.
It was challenging for the hospital considering the limited time
and heavy workload. The Rehabilitation Medicine Center had to complete a large
number of documentations, and the hospital had to provide medical services for
various meetings and sport games while ensuring normal operation.
In addition, it was unprecedentedly difficult for accessible environment
transformation based on existing buildings and structures. CARF requires to
provide employees, patients and other stakeholders with a healthy, safe, comfortable
and accessible environment. To meet the standard, the Secretary Li Yuting took
the lead to check out every corner of the hospital on a wheelchair as a
patient, actively promoting the accessibility from the perspective of patients.
03 Aspire for excellence with the concepts of "patient orientation" and "constant development"
On January 16, the good news coming warmed up the cold winter
night and each member of the hospital!
Southwest University Hospital is a grade-two comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, healthcare, prevention, rehabilitation and scientific research. It is the first college community health service center in Chongqing, as well as a model hospital of the medical combo of the People’s Hospital of Chongqing. Meanwhile, it is the training base for the College of Pharmacy of Southwest University, the College of Public Health Management of Chongqing Medical University, and Chongqing Medicine & Health College.
Established in May 2012, the Rehabilitation Medicine Center of the Hospital owes the First Rehab Section coring at modern rehabilitation and the Second Rehab Section coring at traditional rehabilitation. It stresses on developing neurological rehabilitation, pain rehabilitation and exercise rehabilitation, aiming at improving patients’ living quality. Through CARF accreditation, the “patient-centered” service concepts have been fully integrated into routine work of each employee. We care patients’ opinions, we respect their individualized demands, and we value their accessible experience. Enabling patients to return to normal life has been our drive for constant improvement.
